The Winter Sky

The dusk glimmered on the horizon, flushed crimson, the red and yellow hues tantalizingly glimmering against the sombre backdrop of the early Irish winter canvas, wiped clean of the afternoon colors by the recent and now distant passing rain. The eyes of many clung in hope, before the darkness descended, on to the ephemeral presence of the sun, who smouldered a deep blood orange in the last glow of the sunset; It made haste in rendering itself scarce receding from this horizon, to paint the dawn of another.

As the birds, partaking in the chorus of the twilight, flew homeward in formation, in perfect instinctive synchrony, the Sun slowly drew the dark curtain of the night on this act, pulling it down as it continued on its downward trajectory; And the moon, in the hazy thickness of the distance, it's iridescent ivory shimmering ever so brightly by the passing moment, played a mute appreciative spectator to this grand denouement of the day as it braced itself for it's first act for the creatures of the night...
