What interesting times. A time to stay put, for yourself, and for others. Take this as an opportunity to step back, reflect and scrutinise. At a macro level, acknowledge how we are only animals, vulnerable as any other; Be humbled. Realise how all in nature are equal, appreciate and respect that.
At a micro level, the constant stimulus of distractions around us will reduce - No restaurants, pubs, movies, sporting events; No shops to cater to our need for retail therapy, the need to buy things - clothes, knick knack, vanity, that new smartphone etc.,. Question if you really need them. Its a great window to go back the pre-consumerism era.
Things will slow down considerably, now that you are working from home. You will realise that you have extra time at your disposal - the time you spent commuting to work, to the gym, dropping kids etc. Slow down. Take the time to eat your meals, all 3 of them, with your family, instead of a grab and go, or a sandwich at work that we are all so accustomed to. Make it a stubborn point to stick to the 9-5 work timings and work diligently during those hours. It is easy to work overtime now that work is at home, avoid that. Remember, this is a chance for you to reset. Limit screen and couch time, keep up with your workout regime, bring your gym or your sport home. Challenge yourself to prove that you don’t need the gym, court or a pool to take care of yourself. Learn. Use this time to take out that trunk of your hobbies, interests, long lost passions and wipe the dust off of them, and also involve those around you in these, teach them. Staying at home, away from the outdoors, being unable to travel can be difficult. You don’t have to stay indoors - rediscover your backyard, terrace, balcony or your window sill. Remember that this is only temporary, treat this time as a retreat. It is a great time to experience that slow pace of life, from the eras gone by, that we’ve seen in films, read about in literature, and heard about from our grand parents, a way of life that a lot of us have, at some point, craved.
Reflect. Learn. Slow down. Grow.
